Author Info : Student at Vienna University of Technology, Austria Description/Info : A masterpiece in Doom level design Additional Credits to : Leland D. Killough, Frans P. de Vries New Sounds : No New Music : Yes ("Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff) Demos Replaced : None HOW TO USE THIS WAD FILE: Copy the file GANYMEDE.WAD into your Doom directory and type doom -file ganymede.wad at the DOS prompt. WHAT YOU WILL FIND IN THIS WAD: Constructions that you have never seen before in the original levels of both Doom and Doom 2. WHAT YOU WON'T FIND IN THIS WAD: * Cacodemons (the red heads - I HATE THEM!) * Lost Souls * Areas filled with acid * Invisibility, Invulnerability, Berzerk (I'm always uncertain whether it is the right time to take these...) THE STORY: The year is... - well, take your favorite year from the future. You are a student at Ganymede University of Technology, experimenting with time travel. By mistake you travel about 50 years into the future. You had learned earlier from a history book which had been brought back from the future that at that time Ganymede will be taken over by a military regime, using your University as headquarters. Fight your way through Ganymede Tech and find the time port that will bring you back to your time... HINTS: * If you are using a slow PC and experience speed problems, then try playing this WAD at an easier level. The more enemies there are, the slower the game will perform. I designed & tested this WAD on a 486DX33, and on difficulty levels 3 and 4 it was too slow to play. The easiest level worked OK. * You don't need to kill everyone to finish the level. * The second room that you will enter has many doors leading into different parts of the level; only two of them don't require a key. One of them leads into a darker section. Better turn right there at the first turn-off. * Especially with the harder difficulty settings you will find out that after some time there will be Imps (the Brownies, as I call them) all over the place. Better find out where they come from and what happens to them, because there is a method to get rid of them all before they start walking around and appear behind every corner... MISCELLANEOUS: * In the name of all Doom level authors: DON'T CHEAT! Please don't use the light amplification cheat; I know that some areas are a little dark, but if you play in the evening and you turn off the light in your room, you will find out that you will be able to see quite well even in the dark sections. There are some good light effects that you would miss using the LiteAmp cheat. * This Doom level is in no way connected to my studies at the Vienna University of Technology. * Feel free to e-mail any comments to my address.
