The maps are presented in this wad in more-or- less in the same order in which they were submitted by the mappers, so if you wish, you can follow along in the thread while playing the maps. It's like video commentary, except it's text! The exceptions are the two maps which were submitted with no exit, which have been moved to the ends of their respective wads. Some of the mappers' comments were originally packaged with their wad files instead of just posted in the forum thread, so those comments are copied-and-pasted below. ** Credits ** * e1m1mem.wad - for Doom 1 * e1m1 - Creaphis Original comments: "E1m1, reproduced entirely from memory (inaccurately), after having not looked at the original e1m1 for at least a few months. I've done my best to copy all level features except for the thing placement on the lower skill levels (only UV placement was attempted). There is no new gameplay here, of course, but I made it as an interesting curiosity for myself and perhaps others. "This was an interesting process. I felt fairly comfortable rebuilding the level geometry, but found it brutally hard to guess at what the textures were supposed to be - I've never played this level with an eye for the textures so I had to go with my best gut feeling. Thing placement was surprisingly easy. Once I started testing the level, I noticed that I had a deeply-ingrained muscular expectation that certain things should be in certain places, so when something was out of place or missing it was clear what had to be fixed. Even though this remake is inaccurate in most places and just plain wrong in the rest, it feels like e1m1 when I play it and I'm satisfied with that." e1m2 - ArmouredBlood Original comments: "E1M1 from memory, like creaphis I could barely remember what any of the textures MIGHT be, but I remember the architecture pretty well. Probably missing a secret or two cause I never went completely in depth on this. Also not sure if the first door should be opened by monsters, never remember having 5 former humans pop up after getting the green armor. Think I fixed that though. Other than those and some size of room issues, it should be close. Somewhat did difficulty levels. "Took 2 hours or so." e1m3 - The Green Herring Original comments: "Not perfect, but it'll do." e1m4 - Enjay e1m5 - Nuxius e1m6 - GreyGhost Original comments: "Created as a self-test to see how much of E1M1 from Knee Deep in The Dead is imprinted on my memory. I'd give myself a low pass." e1m7 - SirTimberWolf e1m8 - LogicDeluxe (no exit) * e1m1mem2.wad - for Doom 2 * Two maps were submitted that make use of Doom 2 resources. Though this is a clear deviation from the premise of this level compilation, these levels are included because the Doom community is all about inclusivity and brotherhood. map01 - TimeOfDeath map02 - Super Jamie (no exit) =========================================================================== * Copyright / Permissions * Authors MAY use the contents of this file as a base for modification or reuse.
