Thanks : id Software for Doom
Randy Heit for ZDoom
Jehovah Gyra for the music, especially Captain Bob
Faint for testing and chatting about different ideas

[<- Play Information ->]
Executable needed : ZDoom v1.23b33 (or later?)
IWAD Needed : DOOM2.WAD
Map # : It's a Hub. Don't worry about it.
Single Player : Yes
Cooperative 2-4 Player : No (Too heavily scripted with "cinemas" and such.)
Deathmatch 2-4 Player : No (No point.)
Other game styles : No
Difficulty Settings : Yes - the usual enemy placements and whatnot are here,
as well as a few difficulty-specific surprises near
the end.
New Graphics : Yes, but most of it is just altered from the original
graphics or horrible mspaint stuff. Nothing
spectacular.
New Sounds : Oh, yeah. Plenty. Too bad for us modem users...
New Demos : No. You can find one here if you're stuck: http://jehovahgyra.com/awps1_lmp.zip
New Music : Yes, there's the basic awpm.wad, which is full of
mp3s and features Jehovah Gyra's E1M8 as a centerpiece,
and a special add-on (for the "ending level") for those
interested at www.jehovahgyra.com/doom.(This file is
separate because of its size.)
[<- Construction ->]
Base : From scratch.
Build Time : I started this on December 15th 2001 and I literally
did not leave my house until the 10th of January. I
slept about 7 hours average per 30 hour period
(knowing whether it was day or night bothered me),
and I didn't do much except this. So let me do some
math... Even a conservative estimate yields about 500
hours. But this is my first real wad, and my first
experience with "code" so I guess it took a while...
** Update: Well, obviously it's
not 2001 anymore. In case you
don't already know, this is
a re-release of the project
with increased compatabilty. **
Tool(s) used : Wadauthor, WinTex, Photoshop, MSPaint, Sound Forge 5.0
Known Bugs/Issues (or, READ THIS BEFORE PLAYING!)
: Okay, you can mess up some of the cinemas in a number
of ways if you really want to and know what you're
doing, but I don't really care. I will suggest that
you don't press any keys or save while the player is
stopped for a cinema. Don't consider me a bad designer
if you _can_ screw things up intentially. I'm working
_around_ ZDoom, not changing it.
Slimetrails. I don't know how to get rid of them.I
did go to GREAT pains to limit their numbers, and they
should be all but unnoticable, with the exception of
one piece of map...
The automap has been "taken out," and I would suggest
avoiding IDDT. The monster count is also meaningless,
because of monsters spawned, used for cinemas and in
scripted loops, etc.
I've noticed some less-than-desirable behavior with
spacing back to life after dying in a piece of a hub.
I never bothered figuring out why or what happens, but
I'll say this: don't restart from the first of a map -
load from a save file. Resetting the hub's "status"
(and loosing all of your keys) will screw things up.
So if you spacebar back to life and notice you have
only a pistol, please see your nearest F9 key.
If you quit Zdoom and restart again, the volume for
the mp3 playback will be set to full. This might be
too high for you (especially with a certain boss:),
so be sure and stop to turn it back down when needed.
On the other hand, every effort has made (with the
exception of effort) to make sure that once you do
find a nice volume, all the songs will play at a nice
level. Also, Mr. Heit has given word that this volume
problem will be fixed soon.
**Update: It looks like it's fixed. **
I would suggest you play without the hud or a cross-
hair, and at a high resolution. (Not a bug, I know.
But if you are at anything less than 480x360, you will
encounter one problem (a texture with text written on
it will be unreadable.)) Though all the messages using
"print" have been adjusted to display properly even at
320x200.
If you load a save file, all the blood decals turn
black. This is a Zdoom problem; I mention it here
because it kills an effect in one level, "The Reactor".
(But don't worry - there's no reason to save in that
level, so don't.)
Will Not Run With... : Anything but Zdoom 1.23b33. You can run it with beta 28
with a slight error or two. And I assume it should
work with any Zdooms released in the future.
