Misc. Author Info       : I've mapped for years but only released a DM map to zdaemon, nothing on the archives.  I've always mapped for friends and personal playing.

Description /Story      :

The refineries, factories and power plants have all taken their toll on the environment; polluting rivers and saturating the landscape in toxic sludge and stagnant byproduct.  The "Safe Haven Sanitation" plant is in the business of environmental cleanup.  Sitting in the heart of the 'poisonous 4' (the 4 most prolific polluters built around this area), this centre was built to carry in toxic materials dredged from the land and rivers, pumped in and circulated round a treatment plant.  Pure water is pumped in from a nearby spring to dilute the toxic sludge where it is further mixed by a pale silt resin and moves to a heated distillation chimney and evaporated.  The silt resin retains the toxins to form a salt sediment which can then by recycled into harmless ash and cinder blocks to be used for building ... perhaps for building more factories and toxin excreters.  Ah, well the noble thought is still there.

The toxic substances however proved to be a lot more dangerous than anticipated.  With open canal ways running sludge through the station everyone eventually got sick. Together with the hell invasion happening at the UAC science division, workers became mutated and assimilated too.

This occurance was forseen by the UAC, and they sent a team packing over there to perform some environmental cleanup of their own.  And as your comrades fell or became assimilated, you are the new point man and last of your team to finish the job, this time with the precaution of a marine helmet so you don't also succumb to their fate (duh).



A classic feel map with some newschool stuff, nothing too heavy.  Originally meant to have 4 maps, but I decided to use those maps for something else.

* Play Information  *

To play, either drag and drop feelsafe.zip onto your gzdoom.exe or include -file feelsafe.zip in the command line of a gzdoom.exe shortcut.  GZDoom supports loading zip files, so everything needed is within the zip.  If you need instructions, on how to get through the level, checkout this enclosed instruction ... file.

GZDOOM SETTING          : Ensure that, as always should be, that sector light mode is set to DOOM (Options > Display options > openGL options > Preferences > Sector light mode = Doom. Gamma correction and brightness should be at a default.  Adjust gamma slightly if your monitor is too dark.  Shadows should appear dark, its a dark map but not so its too hard to navigate, and dark areas become visible the closer you are to them.

Beautiful Doom binds the keys Y,U,I and O to toggle effects settings.  Rebind these keys at the bottom of the controls menu if they bother you.  Toggle these settings off if you experience lag in battles.

IMPORTANT NOTE          : The chaingun and super shotgun have alternate fire modes.  Bind a key in your controls menu to the alt fire.  I choose to have right click for alt fire and middle mouse wheel for USE/ACTIVATE.  Also, jumping is allowed, so is crouching.  These are not needed to complete the level or finding any secrets.  If you have trouble finding secrets, check for computer panels that seem isolated or different in some way.  But you've probly played this game for years, so I'll shut up now.

Known Bugs              : Map Tested, no bugs found, nothing hinders progress.  The controls menu that deals with Beautiful Doom has duplicate entries, but no problems.
May Not Run With        : It will only work in GZDoom in openGL/hardware
Tested With             : GZDoom 1-4-08
