=========================================================================== Advanced engine needed : ZDaemon Primary purpose : Capture the Flag =========================================================================== Title : CupCTF Filename : cupctf.wad Release date : June 18, 2011 Author : TheCupboard Email Address : [email protected] Other Files By Author : oozeaff, hehretic_f, hfruit_h, bm2surv, and various in ZDaemon Heretic Pioneer CTF Misc. Author Info : Keep a watchful eye on klaas! Description : A pack of 13 CTF maps for your flag-capturing pleasure. There are a variety of themes represented including green pastures, brick, panels, tech bases, and some classic-ish maps as well. This is my first foray into CTF, as I've focused mostly on SP/COOP levels in the past. In here you'll find ten "serious" maps plus a remix of Doom's E4M1, a shake-up of Heretic's E1M1, and a beloved saw/fist map. ZDaemon users: DMFLAGS : 286724 DMFLAGS2 : 34078728 IT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE "SPAWN MONSTERS" ENABLED! MAP01: Superduper Bases My first Doom 2 CTF map. It features some giant gray brick bases and two routes to the bases which can only be accesed by crossing a bridge in the middle. I do rather like the look of this one, with the imposing fortresses and dim interiors and all that. MAP02: Sylvan Reserve At the beginning of this project, I wanted to make a lush forest map with a UAC base thrown in there somehow. Inspired my map16 of 32in24-7. Raging chainguns ahoy! MAP03: Ashen Blockhouse It's a giant gray compound with many, many places to hide. It's also a conversion of my E3M6 map from ZDaemon Heretic Pioneer CTF. Not many ever play Heretic, so I decided to take my best map out of ZHPCTF and include it here. Texture usage isn't great here, I'll admit. Ultimately the theme isn't convincingly executed, but it still makes for some giant games with a lot of opportunity for flagrunners to bolt around this immense layout. MAP04: Galoshes at the Ready! I always loved the atmosphere of Doom's E2M4, so I decided to tribute that brand of creepiness here. Don't worry, the nukage is no longer poisonous, it's just for decoration. Earlier versions of this map were highly bottlenecked, and I remember phenex2 saying after a grueling match, "I never saw the enemy flag once." Well, that has been remedied because I opened the map up quite a bit. Probably against my better judgment, I added some SSGs here too. E2M4 is so awesomely sinister that I couldn't capture all of it in this map, but a few of the crucial elements are here. MAP05: Bricklayers Ltd. This layout happened pretty much by accident. I wanted something with a lot of height variation and I just mashed a bunch of interesting layout elements together and hoped it would work. I've had a lot of players mention that they really like this map and I enjoy playing it, myself. You can take the grassy low route while travelling from base to base or take lifts/stairs up to the bricky high route. There are a number of places to hide in the map. Two soulspheres can be attained by hitting the switches outside up on the high route. MAP06: Spider Bastion I was intrigued by map31 of 32in24-7 and wanted to try a similar concept with Spider Masterminds instead of Cyberdemons. I made a very oridinary layout for the concept and plopped a megasphere in the middle instead of a BFG. This is really just an exercise in lunacy. It's fun in a hectic way. MAP07: Parihelion It's a neat STARTANish base that I'm sort of proud of. The layout seems cumbersome to me, but I ultimately left some of the more awkward elements the way they are. Take the stairs to the thin bridge to nab a soulsphere. And plas! MAP08: Verdant Estuary This one is quite simple and has nowhere to hide. A stream divides a green plain and two brown techbases. Inspired by dpctf1 map01. MAP09: Anomalous I love the tune in this one and the track "I Sawed the Demons" it's based off of. E2M1 is a real favorite of mine so I wanted to tribute it a bit. I desired to merge characteristics of Doom and Doom 2 in this map, so there are marble Icon of Sin decorations here, SSGs, and some Doom 2 map23 type of gameplay happening in the middle. Barrel frags are good for the planet. MAP10: Technical Thaumaturgy My most recent CTF map. Definitely some map01 tribute-action going on here. There are several routes to the bases. Jump over the light fixtures outside to access plasma rifles. The hallways might be confusing at first, but it shouldn't be too bad after playing a while. PS: This is entirely unrelated to this map, but you should play osctfmp1 or else there might be no hope for you. MAP11: Forgot About E4? A remix of Doom's E4M1. Some parts are a bit bottlenecked, but there are enough side rooms that an offensive player can reach the bases with a bit of clever maneuvering. Noteworthy factoid: there are two sequestered invisibility spheres and four (!) sets of light amplification goggles to counter players using the invisibility spheres. MAP12: Black Sawbbath A chainsaw and berserk fist map. It's for the chuckles. MAP13: Polluted Docks A shake-up of Heretic's E1M1. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless you're all of the following: a) a Heretic nerd b) masochistic c) one who enjoys a boatload of secret passageways.
