= Installing MP3 Made Easy =
============================

Unzip DOSDOOM_MP3.ZIP in the same directory as DOSDOOM.EXE
           (should typically be in C:\DOOM2)

=======================
= Using MP3 Made Easy =
=======================

MP3.WAD dosn't contain *any* music or MP3's. It only contains
music entries that call for physical MP3's that are on your
hard drive in a specefic location.

You cannot edit the entries using Wintex. It will return an error.

You can replace all of DOOM2's music with MP3 music. Move
your desired MP3's to C:\DOOM2\MP3, rename them to match
the following names:

MAP01.MP3
...thru:
MAP32.MP3
INTRO.MP3 (title music)
INTER.MP3 (between levels music)
TEXT.MP3  (text between episodes music)

Missing MP3's will result in no music being played for those
particulat levels. You don't have to replace them all for
it to work. You just won't hear music for those that have
songs omitted.

If a song doesn't play, check that you named it correctly, and that it's
a legitimate MP3. Also check that the volmume for the music setting in
the game is all the way up, and you put the MP3's in the correct directory.

MP2's will not work with MP3 Made Easy. MP3 is a better format and
more common anyway.

=========================
= Playing MP3 Made Easy =
=========================

Open a DOS prompt, run MP3.BAT.

Edit MP3.BAT to suit your needs. You can use any map set with it.

EX: C:\DOOM2\>MP3 GOTHICDM.WAD

===============================
= Problems with MP3 Made Easy =
===============================

MP3's are highly compressed digital audio files, and as a result,
are CPU intensive to decode. Playing a game with MP3 music will
show signs of slow gameplay and framerates. Most of the newer systems
will barely feel the drag (like P2's). Pentiums should handle the
system drag fairly well, especially if you have 64 megs of RAM and
a P166 or better.

You can decrease the drag on your system by using MP3's that are encoded
at a lower rate. Near CD quality is 128kb, which is the most common sample
rate, but is more CPU intensive to decode. You can get better performance
with MP3's encoded at 64kb, but the sound quality isn't as good.

DOS DOOM doesn't pecache the MP3's. They are cached on the fly, so you will
most likely hear jitters and skips when the MP3 is playing for the first time.
After that, the file is cached, and should give smoothe playback. Shorter
songs will cache faster, and play smoother too. A 2 minute song is a really
good length for this type of use.

==========================
= Where can I get MP3's? =
==========================

It's best to get them legally, so musicians can get paid and make more music
for us all. Illegal MP3's are stealing from the musicians. It's the same as
going into your local CD store and taking CD's without paying for them.

Here's a few legit places to go:
