================================================================ Title : ALIENS: The Co-Op Levels Filename : ALIENCOP.WAD (you should also have ALI2GFX.WAD and ALI2SND.WAD from the ALIENS DOOM patch, otherwise *much* of the atmosphere will be lost. Textures and objects will look out of place without the patches. I used ALIENS DOOM v2.1) Author : David Evans Email Address : [email protected] Misc. Author Info : First serious attempt at .WAD editing; pretty damn good levels if I do say so myself! Description : This is a 3-level .WAD I decided to make : after downloading the Aliens DOOM graphics/sound : patch off the Internet. The levels that came : with this patch really sucked, so I decided : to make my own for single and Co-Op play. : These levels feature realistic lighting, : lots of attention to detail and tons of action. : Hope you enjoy it! Additional Credits to : ID Software for making DOOM/DOOM 2, and of course : the authors of Aliens DOOM (note that this is NOT Aliens Total-Conversion for DOOM by Justin Fisher. Also note that Aliens DOOM is compatible with DOOM and DOOM 2. However, this .WAD is for DOOM 2 ONLY.) ================================================================ * Play Information * Episode and Level # : MAP01 - MAP03 Single Player : YES! Cooperative 2-4 Player : YES!! This is what it's meant for! **GO KICK SOME ALIEN ASS AS A SQUAD!!** Deathmatch 2-4 Player : No Difficulty Settings : Not implemented New Sounds : YES (only if using Aliens Doom sound patch, ALI2SND.WAD) New Graphics : YES (only if using Aliens Doom graphics patch, ALI2GFX.WAD) New Music : No (however, music was ripped from various levels of DOOM 2) Demos Replaced : None Monster types : Lost Souls (face huggers) Imps (baby aliens) Sergeants (ceiling aliens) Demons (adult aliens) Spectres (invisible adult aliens) Cyberdemon (The Alien Queen) * Construction * Base : None (started from scratch) Build Time : Several months (took a few months break in between each level), started mid-1995, completed March '96. Editor(s) used : DMAPEDIT v4.0.11 (beta) RMB (reject/blockmap builder) MUSTOOL (extract/insert .MUS files) WADCAT (merge many .WADs into one big .WAD file) Known Bugs : None. Email me if you find any. Story: Just watch the movie and play this level. I tried to follow the movie's locations somewhat, though it's no Aliens Total-Conversion. Anyways, you recieve a distress signal from the planet LV-426, where 70 colonist families were sent to terraform the land. You (and up to 3 other Space Marines, if playing multi-player) fly to and land on LV-426, outside the colony complex. Upon entering inside, you realise it's deserted. After checking the colonists rooms for signs of life, you proceed to the sub-levels, and finally the basement. It is here that the real adventure begins; and your worst nightmares come to life... Other: I suggest you play this .WAD 4-player Co-op, as that is what I meant it to be for! There aren't really many good Co-op levels out there (that I have played), and playing DOOM II over and over gets boring. So I decided to do something about it; I created my own levels, added the Aliens DOOM graphics/sound .WADS, and voila! I had my own semi-Aliens TC. Single player is fun too. Let me know what you think of this .WAD, and remember, you MUST HAVE ALIENS DOOM v2.0 or higher to have the right textures in the right places, etc... because without the GFX/SND patch everything looks stupid (the creators of Aliens DOOM created and replaced wall textures and certain objects). So if you don't have the ALI2GFX.WAD and ALI2SND.WAD, then you will be missing out on the whole point of the levels: ALIENS! Also, check out the lighting job! Not trying to be too conceded, but I think I did a great job on lighting/shadows. Ever noticed how most .WADs don't *really* pay much attention to light levels, etc.? Well I decided to create lots of realism using various levels of lights, light sources and the smooth blending of light from one sector to the next. I'm sure you'll agree: It makes the mood much more involving and sombre. If you find it too dark, I suggest you use Gamma Correction. Simply press F11 while playing and you can adjust the brightness up to four levels; I suggest setting it at level 3 or better still, level 4. Oh yeah, play with the lights off. * Copyright / Permissions * Authors may NOT use this level as a base to build additional levels.
