================================================================ Title : the_reckoning Filename : RECKON.WAD Author : Fly (Chris) Email Address : [email protected] Description : My second WAD attempt. The first is still in the making and is already over 300K. I haven't even finished defining the walls let alone put all the details in. This wad is a simple little skill tester. I think it starts with a clever little trick, but you may tell me otherwise. Additional Credits to : id & Raven. Release Date : 20 May 1997 ================================================================ So you reckon your good, huh? You reckon Hexen's a breeze? Let's see. I can complete this level using any character. But on the easiest setting. You reckon you can? You reckon you have what it takes? It's not a big level - surely? But I dare you... If you have a Hexen editor - I dare you to not preview the level. Jump in. I reckon you can't. Try ... the_reckoning. * Play Information * Level : Map 1 Single Player : Yes Cooperative 2-4 Player : No Deathmatch 2-4 Player : No Difficulty Settings : No New Sounds : No New Graphics : No New Music : No Demos Replaced : None This level is short and sweet. Simply download RECKON.ZIP from this site. Once it's downloaded, copy it into your Hexen directory. Unzip it using pkunzip or Winzip, and then from the DOS prompt, type "reckon" and press Enter. You will then be asked whether you want to read the help file (different to this one) or play the level. For a 36K zip file which will take you not time to download and a fair while to complete, I think the_reckoning is good value. Tell me what you think.

You MAY distribute this WAD, provided you include this file, with no modifications. You may distribute this file in any electronic format (BBS, Diskette, CD, etc) as long as you include this file intact. * Bugs Details * CAUTION: reading the following will undoubtedly help you along in the game - so it's a bit of a cheat file as well. I suggest playing the level before you go any further. The bugs listed here are chronological, so if you get stuck, check this file and return to playing once you solve the problem. ......bugs...... 1. After the afrits (flying thingies) you walk along a thin, high wall. At the end of the wall a brick wall blocks your path. As you approach this 2nd wall, something is supposed to be activated - which you are supposed to kill in order to lower the brick wall. Sometimes this thing is not activated. If this happens, save your game and reload it. The thing should be activatable now. 2. In the mosh pit you meet Korax. I found an error message kept appearing across the top of the screen while he was alive, but this didn't interrupt gameplay. 3. Again in the mosh pit - the trigger which spawns vials and combined manna sometimes stops working once you kill the Dark Bishop behind the trees. tough luck. <that's it>....... Notes: I found DCK useful, but for example, I couldn't get the death of a Heresiarch to lower a floor. I think this was DCK's problem, not mine, because I formatted the Heresiarch the same way as any other creature. Also, I couldn't get the Death Wyvern to fly anywhere, and I remember reading somewhere that two points need to be specified for it to fly; DCK didn't seem to support this. Lastly, my BIGGEST problem was scripting; not that the scripting itself was any problem for me. I just couldn't get DCK to compile scripts. Simple "print to screen" type scripts, and ambient sounds work fine, but refering to anything like raising or lowering floors just would not compile. The problem was sometimes with compiling the files listed in common.acs. They just a weren't a working. If anyone has any _useful_ information on scripting, or can _really_ recommend a better editor, please do! This is why my first WAD will end up being the second finished: I really don't want to finish it without taking advantage of Hexen's scripting. Please do email me ([email protected]) with some feedback. :) enjoy...
