Version 1.02 Update by : Sparky of KISS Software [email protected] who incidently, also loves cheese :-) ====================================================================== New to version 1.02 (by Sparky of KISS Software): - converted the DeHackEd patch to Patch Format 6 for compatability with Doom II v1.9 and many popular source ports (the previous patch for Doom II v1.7 was in the old DeHackEd v2.2 format, hence could not be used with any of the source ports). - combined the three wad files (sound/music/graphics, maps/graphics, and sprites) into a single wad. Deleted the duplicate graphics, music, and wall textures; reducing the size of the wad by 650KB. - appended both original text files to the end of this document. - fixed dozens of map faults - missing textures, open sectors, faulty sector tags, etc. (there's still lots of texture misalignment but you'll have to live with it). - made the exit to the Super Secret level a bit more obvious. ====================================================================== * What is included * New levels : 6 Sounds : Yes Music : Yes Graphics : Yes Dehacked/BEX Patch : Yes - external (d2deb102.deh) Demos : No Other : No Other files required : A source port if you don't want to patch 'Plain Vanilla' Doom II (see below). * Play Information * Game : Doom II Map # : Maps 14 15 (31 32) 16 17 Single Player : Designed for Cooperative 2-4 Player : Player starts only (untested) Deathmatch 2-4 Player : from 6 to 12 player starts (untested) Other game styles : No Difficulty Settings : Yes Will not work with : Source ports that can't import DeHackEd patches, such as: JDoom v0.82 and Edge v1.24 ====================================================================== D2DEB102 with 'Plain Vanilla' Doom II ------------------------------------- To play D2DEB102 with 'Plain Vanilla' Doom2 you need to: a) add the missing sprites to d2deb102.wad with a program like DeuSF, WinTex or NWT. For example, deusf -as d2deb102.wad b) create a replacement exe (doomhack.exe) using DeHackEd v3.1. For example: dehacked -load d2deb102.deh c) To play the game: doomhack -file d2deb102.wad -warp 14 D2DEB102 with a Source Port --------------------------- A better option is to use a Doom Source Port with DeHackEd and sprite support - such as Boom, PrBoom, MBF, SMMU, PrjDoom, ZDoom, Legacy etc. Patching is not required, just use the files as-is. For example: boom -deh d2deb102 -file d2deb102 -warp 14 legacy -deh d2deb102.deh -file d2deb102.wad -warp 14 The original text files follow: d2deb101.txt debfaq.txt ====================================================================== D2DEB101.TXT ------------ PLEASE DELETE ALL COPIES OF PREVIOUS VERSION(S): D2DEB10 ================================================================ Title : Assault on the Hostess Factory Filename : Deblev.WAD, debsnd.wad, Debgfx.wad Author : Morgan Ross Email Address : [email protected] Misc. Description : Twinkie Cowboy, Die, Die, Die! as performed by the Marshmallow Supremes Lyrics by Nate Nelson Tonight I'm goin down to My hometown convenience store. I'm gonna fix a little problem That someone shoulda fixed before: The stores around here carry Hostess Prducts on their shelves, But a store that carries Hostess Is a store that rots in Hell. chorus: Little Debbie Snacks are The only snacks for me. I'm gonna find the Twinkie Cowboy And hang him from a tree. I'm gonna hunt down every fruit pie And smash them on the floor. No more fucking Mini Muffins In my convenience store! When I get to the store I'm gonna act really nonchalante. I can't let the shopkeeper know What I really, really want. Behind that counter I bet he's got a gun. He works for Hostess and he thinks he's number one, Oooooh <chorus> The Squirrels* have a car running outside The store... So we can escape As soon as I'm out the door. One last double-check and the time for action has come. Hostess can shove this song Right up... it's bum... <chorus> <guitar solo> <breakdown> [distortion on]: Quick as lightning I smash the Hostess stand. Once more Little Debbie Has got the upper hand. My boots crush the shit out of Ring Dings and Ho Hos. And I'm done before the shopkeeper Even finishes picking his nose. [hardcore section]: For flavor, packaging and taste, Little Debbie wins the race. Hostess is the enemy Killing our society But we won't let them fuck with us. We'll fight back with our Bloodlust.** Little Debbie is endless bliss. Hostess tastes like human piss. We won't take it any more, It's time to take back our convenience store. That is just plain stupid. If you plan on killing anybody because of Doom, you are a very sick individal indeed. ***************************************************************************** Note: this FAQ does not deal with technical aspects of the game, nor trouble- shooting. It is mainly concernd with explaining the more esoteric elements of the game. If you are having any serious problems with this wad, e-mail a description of them to [email protected]. ***************************************************************************** Q- Why make a WAD about Little Debbie? A- Apparently you did not read the Debbie.txt file yet. It contains song lyrics by Nate Nelson of the Marshmallow Supremes which clarify our feelings toward Little Debbie and (shudder) Hostess. This attitude toward LD originated from a song we wrote about three yars ago called "Little Debbie has a Snack For You". The lyrics were acheived by reading all of the printed text on a box of Snack Cakes taped to the wall of the room we practice in. It was not long before we had developed an entire belief system around LD. Q- You don't get out much, do you? A- What on earth would make you think that? Q- Is the new music by the Marshmallow Supremes? A- Of course. In order to make it sound stupider (and, more importantly, to sve time), it was created by entering the chord progressions from the original songs into the program "Band in a Box", which created generic arrangements in MIDI format. These were then speeded up to around 300 bpm. The songs are *Map 14 "Twinkie Cowboy, Die, Die, Die!" *Map 15 "Little Debbie Bloodlust" *Map 16 "The War Between Gloucester and Ipswich" *Map 17/title "Ooie Ooie, You're so Gooey" *Map 31 "Ooie Ooie" rearrangement *Map 32 "Rhoid Rage" *Between levels "Hangin' Tough" (Okay, so we didn't write this one). Q- What about the sound effects? A- These were scavenged from old tapes of the band, most of them made three or four years ago, before we could play our instruments particularly well. With the exception of the "bloodlust" yell by singer Tim Kuhn, all vocal sounds were done by drummer Nate Nelson. Most of the sounds are pretty straightforward; a few need some explanation to be fully appreciated: *The shotgun sound is the original snare drum that came with Nate's drum set. The snare didnt work right, the stand was too big and it had knife holes in the head. Nate bought a $12 new head for it, then sold the entire drum for $10 a month later. We called it "the punk drum". *The pistol and chaingun are a sample of the "gun" setting on David Hunt's keyboard. *The ammo/health pickup sound is Nate eating a Swiss Cake Roll. *The player grunt is Nate coughing. It was the cleanest sample I could find, but the bass is still almost as loud as the cough. Oh well. Q- What does the spride wad change? I can't see any difference. A- Mainly the medkits. Also, the size of the blood spatters was increased slightly. It is barely noticeable, but does make the game feel a bit gorier. Q- What next? A- Perhaps this summer I will make a Little Debbie TC for Doom II. Also, I plan on eventually having one ready for Quake, which has a far more flexable engine. Bassist and web page creator Zeke Wheeler has talked about making a Debbie wad for Dark Forces. E-mail him at [email protected] if you want details on this. Q- Where can I get a tape of the Marshmallow Supremes? A- Although none of are material is yet available to the publick, we have about ten hours of music recorded on a Tascam 4-track, most of which is decent, and about 30% of which is very good indeed. Also, we are working as the bckup band/arrangers for a childrens' music album. Check the web page regularly; we will probably post details on this when it is released. If you really want to hear us, send a blank tape and $1 postage (cash please) to: Morgan Ross 21 king st Rockport, MA 01966 or, if you don't have a blank tape, get us a recording deal! Please! Q- Are any revisions in the works? A- Expect the following revisions of "Assault": Ver 1.1: -Reject maps will be added to increase speed on slower machines. -Any necessary bug fixes. -Full replacement of creature sounds. -New title screen and interpic by Nate Nelson (drummer). ver 1.1a -Improved FAQ. Q- And, is there a sequel on the way? A- Of course! I have already begun work on a followup wad, set in the Mojave desert. This setting is much more difficult to design convincingly than most, however, so don't expect to see it for a while.
