In order to create a complete collection of historic DOOM versions, as released on the Internet at the time, id Software has allowed to place this file, the v1.666 shareware version of DOOM released on Sep 1, 1994, in the official idgames archive. This file is collected here because of the historic interest shown in it, and is not supported by id Software in ANY way. Please do NOT contact id Software about this file. DOOM is a fast-moving virtual reality game in which you are plunged into a brutal 3-D world. To escape alive, you must outfight legions of grisly fiends and solve DOOM's lethal puzzles. You play a marine equipped with a variety of weapons and technological artifacts, but in the end it comes down to who's tougher: you or them. Here it is -- the v1.6 Beta of DOOM. This should be the final sound code revision. We fixed some small bugs, but the major problem was the sound code.
